Camel Transfer from Merzouga to Your Desert Camp in Erg Chebbi

Merzouga Camel Transfer to the Desert Camp

Arrive at your desert camp the traditional way. Our camel transfer takes you from Merzouga or Hassilabied into the Erg Chebbi dunes on camelback, with a local camel guide walking in front of the caravan.

Afternoon – Ride into the dunes

Meet our team in Merzouga in the late afternoon. Leave your car at our safe parking, keep a small bag with you and mount your camel. Your big luggage is driven to the camp by 4x4, so you travel light.

Sunset – Arrival at the camp

On the way the caravan stops on a high dune so you can watch the sunset and take photos. You reach the camp around dusk, in time for mint tea and dinner.

Next morning – The way back

After sunrise you can ride back to Merzouga by camel, or choose a 4x4 if you prefer a quicker return.

Camel Transfer Overview

The camel transfer is the classic way to reach any camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on where your camp is, and it is easy for most people, including children riding with an adult.

Not keen on riding a camel or arriving late at night? Choose our 4x4 transfer to the desert camp instead.

What should I know before booking?

1

The transfer usually leaves in the late afternoon so you arrive at the camp around sunset. Tell us your arrival time in Merzouga.

2

Pack a small bag for the night with your phone, chargers, medicines and a warm layer. The rest of your luggage goes by 4x4.

3

The camel kneels to let you on and off and moves forward and back as it stands up. Hold on when the guide tells you.

4

Children are welcome and usually ride with an adult. If you have back problems or are pregnant, the 4x4 transfer is a better choice.

5

Strong wind or a sandstorm can delay the ride. If needed, we take you to the camp by 4x4 instead.
