Leave Merzouga after breakfast and drive north along the Ziz Valley with its palm oases and the Ziz Gorge. Continue through Midelt and the Middle Atlas cedar forest, where you may see Barbary macaques, and stop in Ifrane before arriving at your riad or hotel in Fes in the late afternoon.
Merzouga to Marrakech (1 or 2 days)
Drive west via Erfoud and Tinejdad to the Todra Gorge, then through the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses. In the 2-day version you spend the night in the Dades Valley and visit Ait Ben Haddou the next morning before crossing the High Atlas to Marrakech. The 1-day version takes the most direct route with shorter stops.
