Fes to Merzouga 3-Day Desert Tour – From the Medina to the Dunes

Travel from the imperial city of Fes to the golden dunes of Merzouga on this private 3-day desert tour. You cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and cedar forests, follow the palm-filled Ziz Valley and arrive in the Sahara in time for a camel ride at sunset.

Day 1 – Fes to Merzouga

Pickup from your riad or hotel in Fes. Drive to Ifrane, the "Switzerland of Morocco", and through the cedar forest where Barbary macaques live. Continue via Midelt and the Ziz Gorge with its long palm oasis. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon, ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset and spend the night at our desert camp.

Day 2 – Around Merzouga

Wake up for sunrise over the dunes, then return for breakfast. Spend the day exploring the area around Erg Chebbi: visit a nomad family, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia and walk through the Rissani market. Optional activities such as quad biking or sandboarding can be added. Night in a hotel or camp in Merzouga.

Day 3 – Merzouga back to Fes

After breakfast, drive back north through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas, with stops along the way, and arrive in Fes in the late afternoon.
