Best Time to Visit Merzouga: Weather Month by Month

Plan your Sahara trip around the seasons
Merzouga can be visited all year, but the experience changes a lot with the seasons. Here is what to expect so you can pack well and choose the best activities.
Autumn (October – November): one of the best seasons
Warm, sunny days and pleasant evenings. This is an excellent time for camel rides, desert hikes and nights in camp.
Winter (December – February): sunny days, cold nights
Days are usually bright and comfortable, but nights in the desert can be cold, sometimes close to freezing. Camps provide warm blankets; bring a warm jacket and a hat. Winter skies are often very clear – perfect for stargazing. Christmas and New Year are popular, so book early.
Spring (March – May): flowers, birds and some wind
Temperatures are ideal and migrating birds pass through the oases. Spring can also bring windy days and occasional sandstorms; they rarely last long, and guides adapt the programme.
Summer (June – September): very hot
Daytime temperatures often go above 40 °C. Plan activities for the early morning and late afternoon, rest in the shade at midday and drink plenty of water. Sleeping in the desert is still magical – many guests enjoy sleeping outside under the stars. Our camps with private bathrooms, like the luxury camp, are especially comfortable in summer.
